Morrison Telecom Services, a part of the M Group Services Telecom Division, has invested in the development of three new, purpose-built training centres as the company evolves to meet the accelerating demand for fibre networks across the UK.
The training centres based in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, Leyland, Lancashire, and Risby, Suffolk, will support the ongoing training, development and upskilling of Morrison Telecom Services’ engineering teams, as well as the development of future talent through apprenticeship schemes.
The Leyland site will be used to provide delivery focused accreditations for all cabinet works and to upskill existing Morrison Telecom Services copper engineers to become ‘fibre-ready’. The Risby training centre features a large outdoor space, designed to replicate a real-life street environment, with a full overhead and underground setup to cover a wide range of accreditation and training requirements. The Blantyre training centre is under construction and will feature overhead and underground training facilities for fibre upskilling.
Pat Carolan, Managing Director, Morrison Telecom Services, commented: “With the demand for fibre networks increasing across the UK, the need to increase our skillset, upskill our existing people and attract new talent to deliver competitive programmes on behalf of our clients is essential. “Over the past 12 months, we have made a significant investment in these training and accreditation centres, demonstrating our commitment to investing in the future of our business, our people and our clients. The new training facilities are already playing an essential role in the professional development of our people, ensuring that they are fully trained, competent and accredited to deliver their work in the field.”
In December 2020, Morrison Telecom Services announced that it would be creating 500 new engineering jobs to support the delivery of ‘full fibre’ broadband infrastructure to 20 million premises throughout the UK by the mid-to-late 2020s on behalf of Openreach.
Alain Loosveld, Managing Director of the M Group Services Telecom Division, added: “We look forward to supporting our clients’ ambitious plans to accelerate the rollout of FTTP programmes across the UK. Over the next 18 months, Morrison Telecom Services will be delivering FTTP networks in Scotland, Lancashire, Yorkshire, East Midlands, East Anglia, Essex, West Sussex and Kent and we expect to expand our activities to a wider footprint over the coming years.”
