We were thrilled to have one of our colleagues represent M Group Services’ Telecom Division at Openreach’s International Women in Engineering Day event, recently.
Laura Potterton, Account Director at Morrison Telecom Services, appeared as a guest speaker at the event, which saw 100 people attend in person, with another 700 joining online.
Laura was joined by Owen Moody and Kim Mears from Openreach, and Alan O’Prey from Circet, in the thought-provoking discussions around what its like to be a woman within engineering, specifically within the Telecom industry.
The panel, which also had representation from men within our industry, highlighted how integral it is for everyone to support Women within the sector, succeed.
Speaking on the panel, Laura discussed the need to support women to overcome hurdles they may experience when considering engineering as a career pathway: “It’s about women having confidence and believing in their value – some women have imposter syndrome and will read a job description thinking ‘I’ve not done that before’ so don’t apply for the role but we need to have confidence and know that most other candidates will be in the same situation.”
As a member of our Division’s Inclusion Forum, Laura has spearheaded and supported change to ensure we are supporting our diverse workforce.
Across our Telecom Division we recognise the benefits from our workforce diversity. Thank you Laura, for representing us on Women in Engineering Day!
