Morrison Telecom Services, a part of M Group Services’ Telecom Division, has won a new contract that will, for the first time, see the Group’s specialist engineers carry out home installations. The work involves connecting residential customers to faster, more reliable broadband services through Openreach’s network.
Under this contract, Morrison Telecom Services will work with the Openreach Service Delivery team to provide full fibre connections to customer premises. Full fibre is incredibly fast, working at speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps) compared to a UK average of 59.4Mbps.
Morrison Telecom Services’ specialist engineers will provide new full fibre connections, either overhead or through underground ducts, from the nearest distribution point on Openreach’s network to the customer’s premises. This involves installing a splicing box outside the property, which links to a new Optical Network Terminal (ONT) inside the home, connecting to the customer’s router.
This work supports Openreach’s ambition of accelerating the transition to a fast-expanding fibre network, which is expected to reach 25 million premises by December 2026.
Morrison Telecom Services will be operating in two regions, the East and South-East of England, including London. This will create over 200 new job opportunities with the contract expected to hire around 200 field engineers and a number of office-based support roles in these communities.
The three-year contract runs to September 2025 and is expected to be worth £45million. There is an opportunity for the contract to be extended for a further two years.
